Ortega Branch is coming down

There's No Stopping Us Now!

The appeal to halt the demolition of the old Ortega Branch Library was denied! Thanks to you all for your letters and support. We’ve been given go ahead to move forward with demolition and construction of our new library!

The crew is here, daily, now, preparing the site for demolition. The first step was to cover the mural that runs along the wall facing Ortega Street. The next step is to build a fence surrounding the demolition area. Once that is completed, Mini Ortega will close, temporarily, for approximately 4-6 weeks for demolition. As soon as we know the exact closure dates, we’ll let you know. Once demolition is completed, Mini Ortega plans reopen and stay open for business as usual, until the newly constructed Ortega Library opens in late 2010.

The Bookmobile will visit the neighborhood Fridays from 10 AM-2PM during the demolition closure period. You will be able to pick up your reserves, place reserves and return library materials to the bookmobile. If this Friday morning schedule time proves inconvenient for you, you might consider transferring your holds to a different branch location before closure, or wait until we reopen, as we plan to extend the holds for reserves at Mini Ortega for an additional two weeks.

During the first 2 weeks of closure, storytimes will not be held. After the first 2 weeks, storytimes will be held on Monday and Tuesday mornings at 10:30 AM at Sunset Ministry, 3010 Noriega Street, until Mini Ortega reopens.

If you have any questions, please call (415) 557-4353 or visit our blog for the latest information: http://ortegabranchlibrary.blogspot.com

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, but promise our brand new Ortega Branch Library will be worth the trouble and the wait!

Sincerely,

Ortega Staff.
